Quality control for food and beverage

Quality control spans the full journey of a product. Raw materials, in-process checks and the final release each answer a different question about safety and consistency.

Set criteria before testing

Teams need agreed specifications for attributes such as appearance, taste, composition, temperature and shelf life. Clear limits make results easier to compare and help staff know when to hold a lot for review.

Inspect at the right stages

Incoming checks can catch unsuitable materials before they enter production. In-process checks reveal drift while there is time to act. Final checks support the decision to release, rework or reject finished goods.

Connect results to decisions

A test result is more useful when it is tied to a lot, an inspection plan and an approval. If a result falls outside the limit, the record should show the investigation and disposition rather than leaving the outcome in email.

What to take into your next discussion

  • Define specifications and acceptable limits for each relevant check.
  • Link inspections to material and finished-product lots.
  • Record holds, approvals and deviations with the result.
